KAARVAN CRAFTS FOUNDATION
The word Kaarvan originally meant ‘moving and trading together, on ethical terms as a unit' in Persian. The organization took this name due to that fact it was established on the premise that women entrepreneurs in low income communities have a right to quality business advisory services. Kaarvan Crafts began in 1998 with a loan from a micro-credit facility called Kashf Foundation, who loaned money to a group of women in Gurumangat village, Punjab , Pakistan, to produce handmade paper cards. After this successful project, the NGO began to train women in various crafts and to market their products locally to corporate clients as well as internationally. Kaarvan Crafts now has over 2500 women entrepreneurs and has three fair trade shops in Pakistan . Their line includes candles, cushions, embroidered tops locally referred to as ‘kurtis', beaded bags and accessories. Proceeds from the sales help fund development projects in the villages in which they work.

SAHIL
Sahil is one of the only NGO's in Pakistan working exclusively on the sensitive issue of child sexual abuse and exploitation. Their work involves research, awareness raising activities, legal advocacy, crisis and intervention training as well as offers free legal aid to victim. Sahil was established in 1996 in Islamabad and is registered with the Pakistan Centre of Philanthropy.
One of Sahil's income generating projects is ‘Just Paper' where handmade paper is produced for sale. Due to the lack of marketing opportunities, as well as the related costs of productions of high quality hand-made products, ‘Just Paper' is not even breaking even in terms of expenses. Sahil continues to support this endeavor because it gives employment to local people of the area. It is for this reason that Adorn would like to promote these crafts through its website and its contacts abroad. For more information, please visit www.sahil.org
SUNGI CRAFTS
An important project of Sungi Development Foundation is the Sungi Crafts programme which imparts skills to women artisans and markets their products at various Sungi outlets all over the country. Sungi is a member of IFAT (International Fair Trade Association) and was awarded the Unesco Seal of Excellence in 2007 for their original craft products. The Enterprise Development Programme (EDP) is an integral part of our Sustainable Livelihood Programme that works with an objective to “Improve local livelihoods through economically viable, socially acceptable and environmentally sensible use of local resources”. Craft skills are a readily available means to generate income for the most marginalized communities and enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the rural craft persons.
This involvement of the women in the economic processes defines a new role for them, a role which traditionally has been non-existent in Pakistan. As per Sungi's mission; to uplift marginalized Women partners, the Enterprise Development Programme aspires to have a major impact on women's mobilization. Sungi also works in areas related to disaster management, human and institutional development as well as sustainable livelihoods to improve social and economic conditions throughout Pakistan. THE CHILDREN'S MUSEUM FOR PEACE AND HUMAN RIGHTS (CMPHR)
The Children's Museum for Peace and Human Rights, formerly Human Rights Education Programme (HREP), has been working in Pakistan since 1995. Their goal is to inculcate the concept of human rights education into local school's curriculum through teacher trainings as well as the development of educational materials and activism campaigns that directly involve children.
In 2001, HREP began working under the name the Children's Museum for Peace and Human Rights, with an aim of establishing a museum in Karachi. The museum will be a multi-dimensional educational space for children that will allow them to understand a wide range of social issues in an enjoyable and interactive environment. Brightly colored stationary, greetings cards and children's books, designed exclusively by local artists, are produced by CMPHR. Adorn purchases these items and markets them to its clients. Proceeds from these cards and educational materials go to support various charitable causes like the Sindh Institute for Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) as well as to support their own human rights education projects. All proceeds from CMPHR's cards and educational materials, which are designed by local artists, go to supporting this project. Adorn has been marketing CMPHR's range of greeting cards, stationery and children's books in an effort to support this worthy project. For more information, please visit www.cmphr.org
